Have you felt lost, low or anxious and it's hard to pinpoint why? Have you gone through something recently and you're not sure who you are anymore? Or maybe need a space where you truly feel heard?
Counselling is a challenging process. We go into parts of ourselves we never expected to see, we know ourselves in a way we never expected to know.
The fact that you're here shows you have started this journey, or open to it. In which case, welcome.

I believe a counsellor is someone who is compassionate and accepting of people- as they are- is the key driver for change. Exploring our issues openly and without judgement puts it in your hands and knowing that I am not here to change you in a way that you don't want to change- giving you the power to be who you want.
It's possible in meeting, you decide that I'm not the right counsellor for you. That is a natural part of the process of meeting counsellors and that is an important part of the journey.
Free consultation
I offer a free 15-minute consultation, so you can chat to me and learn a bit about how I work. If you feel after the conversation that the sessions would be beneficial, click on the contact form below so we can arrange a time.
Flexible
I hope to make the counselling I offer accessible, balancing costs by making sessions £45, letting you pick your fee going up £60 if that's something you can afford.

I am able to arrange appointments either at my counselling room, or meeting online. if you have a preference please indicate on the form.
Creative
Some people want more out of therapy than just to talk and be heard. I also provide art supplies if you would like to convey your feelings in a more creative way. From having years of experience facilitating art groups, I'm a big believer in the power of art and expressing our feelings through it.
About me in South City

A Person-Centered Approach to Counselling
HI! I am Jon Mitchell. I am a qualified counsellor based in Southampton and a member of the ethical body British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP).

I have had experience in multiple areas including addiction, trauma, depression, anxiety, low mood and homelessness.

When it comes to traumatic experiences, I believe the Canadian psychiatrist Gabor Maté puts it very well: that "trauma is also about the absence of good things and not just the experience of bad things." That's why there is value in the every day struggles, the things we worry about but don't know who to turn to or how to talk about it.
